The house structure allows students to unlock their potential through opportunity, support and guidance. The vertical system enables students to work with peers from across the Academy, not just in their own age range. Each tutor group has two tutors to ensure all students have access to the help and support they need.
We understand the importance of listening and acting upon student voice. It is a vital part in ensuring the needs of all students are met. House Captains and their Vice Captains meet regularly to discuss their roles and how they can support students in their house and bring any issues to the House Leader. The student council is created with a representative from each form; elected by their peers.
Tutor Time is held in set bases every morning between 8.50 and 9.05am. Within this time valuable learning takes place through a variety of activities in a supportive environment. The vertical tutoring allows older students to help mentor and work with younger students and develop teamwork and social skills. Air house holds an assembly every Friday morning during tutor time to share information and to celebrate achievements and success.
Students are rewarded in a variety of ways at Parkwood Academy.
- Stamps.
Students earn stamps by meeting expectations and making good or outstanding progress within lessons. These stamps are collected in the student planner and convert to credits, once a student has collected enough credits they can be cashed in for a variety of rewards.
- Golden Time
If a student has 100% punctuality, 100% attendance, all homework and coursework handed in on time and no behaviour points they are rewarded with Golden Time on a termly basis. Attendance to all 3 Golden Time sessions automatically earns the student a place on the end of year trip.
- Attendance rewards.
Each week students with 100% attendance are entered into a weekly draw to win a Voucher. This draw is held in Friday’s Assembly.
- Charity
Throughout the year, students work cooperatively to raise money for our House Charities; this year the Air students have decided to support two charities that support children locally and internationally.
Cash for Kids is the Radio Hallam charity which helps children who need support in the local areaEach year it supports thousands of children who are ill, disabled, under privileged or need extra care. Every penny raised stays in this region. It provides grants to individuals, other charities, groups and the health sector. By supporting Cash for Kids we are actually supporting hundreds of good causes in South Yorkshire & the North Midlands.
Save the Children is an international charity who are currently working hard to save the lives of many children who have been affected by the famine in Somalia, amongst other projects.
