Creative Arts

The Expressive Arts Department is one of the most vibrant areas of the Academy and one that really allows our students to develop their creativity, their groupwork skills, their confidence and their self-expression through our lessons and through the extra-curricular activities that we offer.

The department  runs courses in  Art, Media, Music, Drama, Animation and Performing Arts, to students from year 7 to year 11. At KS3 students are given a firm foundation in the Arts and Media. Our teaching is largely practical and very hands on. Our aim is to give every student the opportunity to see their skills develop and to have their successes celebrated, This philosophy extends into our popular KS3 options courses were  we offer a variety of options courses, with NFE course,  GCSE classes and we offer the full range of level 2 BTEC opportunities.

We also offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities, with regular Drama clubs, Dance clubs, rock bands, the Samba band and Art clubs. The media suite is in high demand with students making films, using garage band or attending it’s animation clubs, film clubs, or simply using the facilitiesto complete research or do homework after school or at lunchtimes  We also offer individual or small group catch- up/ coaching sessions and offer students the option of taking instrumental and singing lessons.

The department involves itself in a range of performance and work sharing opportunities throughout the year, ranging from Arts and performance evenings within the Academy building, work with feeder schools, celebration evenings, lunchtime concerts, charity concerts such as “So you Think Parkwood can Dance..” and we are proud to be involved in a range of city-wide and community based performances.

We are also keen to develop our cross Arts links by uniting the Arts in a serious of themed teaching and learning experiences which will lead up to public celebrations of our students talent and achievement.
